The mayor of the Municipality of Peja is physically attacked

The Mayor of Peja Municipality, Gazmend Muhaxheri, was physically attacked by two people on the morning of October 26 in Peja.

After the attack, Muhaxheri published a photo on Facebook, said that he is in good health.

The Prosecutor's Office of Peja confirmed for Radio Free Europe that the two suspects have been arrested by the Kosovo Police, and the prosecutor of the case has ordered them to be detained for 48 hours.

Muhaxheri's lawyer, Dukagjin Kirveshi, said through a post on Facebook that the mayor of Peja believes that the reason for the attack is related to his official work, adding that he has already given a statement to the police about this case.

Muhaxher's party, the Democratic League of Kosovo, strongly condemned the attack on the mayor of Peja, demanding that the suspected persons face justice.

"Such attacks do not serve democracy and are inciting in this period. Violence has no place in our society, and such actions threaten the safety and well-being of our leaders," said the LDK's response.

Meanwhile, the chairman of the LDK, Lumir Abdixhiku, said that Muhaxheri "can neither be stopped nor intimidated", demanding that the justice bodies provide quick results to hold the suspects accountable.

The Basic Prosecutor's Office of Peja told REL that they are compiling the request for the determination of the measure of detention against the two suspects./ REL
