Zelensky: Russia will send North Korean soldiers into battle within days

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warned on Friday that Russia intends to send troops from North Korea to the front line of the war from October 27.

A day earlier, Ukraine's military intelligence service said that the first North Korean units, trained in Russia, have already been sent to the Kursk region, which is located on the border with Ukraine.

Ukrainian forces launched a major incursion in August into Kursk and have seized territory there.

Kiev says that this territory is being used as a security zone against Russian attacks in Ukraine.

Zelensky said on Friday that "the first soldiers from North Korea are expected to be sent by Russia to the war zones soon, on October 27-28." He described this as "pure escalation from Russia".

"The world can clearly see Russia's real intention, which is to continue the war," he said.

"Therefore, a strong response from global leaders is essential," he added.

The United States said on October 23 that 3,000 North Korean soldiers have been sent to Russia.

Asked if there are North Korean troops in Russia, Russian President Vladimir Putin neither admitted nor denied.
