Osmani demands the lifting of sanctions against Kosovo/ Von der Leyen: No, work
The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen

The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, received the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, in a meeting on Saturday. The latter concluded a tour of meetings in the Balkan states in Kosovo.

At the joint conference, Osmani demanded the immediate lifting of the sanctions, which he considered unfair.

"It is high time that the unfair measures against Kosovo are finally removed. In addition to being unfair, these measures are harming the citizens and have damaged the dialogue process, making it completely unbalanced, unequal and untrustworthy", she said.

But Ursula von der Leyen declared that further steps are needed in order to reach the lifting of sanctions.

"It is very important to work together, and we have welcomed the opening of the border and the advancement of Kosovo's representation in CEFTA, and after that we must work on further steps in order to reach a point where the measures can be lifted. This will also help convince the member states, since as you know all the member states must agree on every step. We are both committed to finding the necessary steps to achieve these goals. For me, it is important that we see Kosovo as our partner and make Kosovo's path towards the EU possible", von der Leyen said.

Kosovo has been sanctioned since June of last year after the riots in the north with the Albanian leaders - for which the internationals blamed the Kurti Government for not taking steps to escalate the situation./ CNA
