A loss for Democrats/ Governor Tim Walz will not run for re-election in Minnesota

Minnesota Democratic Governor Tim Walz has said he will not run for a third term after his state was rocked by a multibillion-dollar fraud scandal that occurred under his leadership.

Walz said in a statement Monday morning that he could not give his all to a political campaign and withdrew from the race.

" Every minute I spend defending my political interests would be a minute I can't spend defending the people of Minnesota against criminals who exploit our generosity and cynics who exploit our differences. So I've decided to withdraw from the race and let others worry about the election while I focus on the job ," Walz said.

Walz's withdrawal from the race is an unexpected reversal of fortune for the Minnesota governor and a blow to the Democratic Party.

He was Kamala Harris' vice presidential running mate in the 2024 presidential election and was seeking a third consecutive term as governor in a race that Democrats have dominated in recent years.
