NATO and Ukraine meet over the new Russian missile

Ambassadors of Ukraine and 32 NATO member states are meeting on November 26 in Brussels to discuss the experimental medium-range hypersonic missile that Russia launched towards Ukraine last week.

On November 21, Russia launched an attack on the Ukrainian city of Dnipro, and Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the attack used a new missile called the Oreshnik.

Putin said the use of this missile was in response to attacks carried out by Ukraine inside Russia with weapons it has received from the United States and Britain.

The Kremlin leader warned that Moscow has the "right" to strike military buildings in states that allow Ukraine to use their weapons against Russia.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, after the attack with this new ballistic missile, called for updated air defense systems that could face the new threat.

Kiev said it hopes there will be "concrete and significant results" after the NATO-Ukraine Council meeting was called.

But NATO diplomats and officials have minimized expectations for any major results during the consultations that will be held on the afternoon of November 26 at the alliance's headquarters in Brussels.

The escalation of tensions over Ukraine comes at a time when future Western support has been called into question following the re-election of Donald Trump as president of the United States, the main power in NATO.

Trump has questioned Washington's continued military aid to Kiev and has vowed to quickly end the war Russia launched against Ukraine in 2022.

On the battlefield, Ukrainian forces are struggling to stop the advance of Russian forces in eastern Ukraine.

NATO and Ukraine have set up their joint council in 2023. This council allows Kiev to call meetings with the alliance whenever it sees fit./ Rel
