Macron calls on government to ban social media for children under 15 by

French President Emmanuel Macron has called for the government to speed up the legal process to impose a ban on social media use for children under the age of 15.

According to Macron, this acceleration should be carried out in order for this law to enter into force from the beginning of the new school year in September 2026.

"The brains of our children and adolescents are not for sale," Macron said.

Macron has called for the bill to be processed quickly by parliament and approved by the Senate in time, arguing that the brains and emotions of children and adolescents are not to be sold or manipulated by large technological platforms.

According to the French health and food safety agency, nearly half of teenagers spend 2-5 hours a day on smartphones, while around 90% of young people between 12 and 17 years old regularly use the internet through these devices, and many of them use social media. /CNA
