Winter storm chaos in the US/ More than 13,500 flights canceled

A major winter storm is causing travel chaos in the United States, with more than 13,500 flights canceled, according to flight tracking data (FlightAware).

About 9,600 of them were scheduled for Sunday, making it the busiest day of disruption since the COVID-19 pandemic, with more than 29% of flights across the US delayed or cancelled.

Flights were also significantly affected at major airports, including Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, where nearly all departing flights for that day were canceled, according to US media.

Significant cancellations are also expected in Dallas-Fort Worth, Charlotte, Philadelphia, Atlanta (the busiest airport in the country), as well as in New York, with JFK and LaGuardia airports.

Travelers are advised to contact their airline for information on refunds or ticket updates, and to be prepared for significant delays, given weather conditions that include heavy snow, rain, frost and very low temperatures for much of the country. /CNA
