List of the best cities in the world for food

Some tourists choose city breaks based on the destination's cultural offerings, while others go after the nightlife or special events, writes CNN.

But for many, the food is the most exciting part of any trip.

For these travelers, the first morning of the trip is an excitement for all the culinary delights that await them: from the many markets that offer delicious local food, to late-night street food and independent restaurants with special dishes to remember tall.

Time Out, the global media organisation, has compiled a new ranking of the world's best food cities for these foodie travellers.

"Food is everything when you travel," Grace Beard, Time Out travel editor told CNN Travel.

Topping Time Out's list is the Italian city of Naples, often touted as the birthplace of pizza.

Delicious margherita pizza flavors feature on Time Out's list of the city's "must-eat dishes," but sumptuous Neapolitan pasta dishes and sweet sfogliatella also top the list.

To compile the roundup, Time Out surveyed thousands of city dwellers across the globe, asking these locals about their city's food options, with a focus on quality and affordability.

Time Out editors analyzed the results, including the highest-scoring city for each country in the resulting rankings.
