LDK demands a parliamentary investigation into state reserves

The opposition party, the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), requested the formation of a parliamentary commission of inquiry for the contracts that the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Enterprise (MINT) has made for state reserves.

Arben Gashi, head of the LDK Parliamentary Group, in a press conference, said that in the first meeting of the autumn session of the Assembly, they will demand the formation of this commission.

"The citizens of Kosovo need to know the truth. The truth is the right solution. Current misuses and possible abuses of state reserves require an investigative, serious and substantive approach," Gashi said on August 9.

According to him, in addition to the criminal investigations that must be carried out by the State Prosecutor's Office, it is necessary to conduct parliamentary investigations to see, as Gashi said, "whether the laws and procedures for state reserves have been respected".

The request for a parliamentary investigation by LDK comes after the publication of some audio-recordings by the National portal, where there is talk of misuse of contracts for the purchase of state reserves by MINT.

Nacionale has reported on the importation of wheat at a more expensive price by a construction company in Turkey.

This portal has announced that the Turkish company has not yet brought to Kosovo the amount of wheat for which the Government of Kosovo paid.

In Kosovo, in 2010, the Law on State Reserves was approved.

According to this Law, the state reserves of goods are created to intervene operatively for the protection of the population, the economy in case of market disorder, the protection of the country in situations of state of emergency, state of civil emergency and many other similar cases.

The state reserves of goods are provided on the basis of the medium-term strategic plan, and they are administered by the Department of state reserves of goods, within the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Enterprise.

Otherwise, according to the laws in force, investigative commissions are established to investigate problems, issues where governmental or state responsibilities are directly involved. These bodies are also established for the purpose of ascertaining, describing the course of events or for the purpose of clarifying what happened and determining the responsibility of those who were involved.

According to the Law on Parliamentary Investigation, investigative commissions also have the purpose of informing, recommending and exercising parliamentary supervision and reaching a conclusion./ REL
