The "lord" of cocaine/ The most dangerous drug trafficker in the USA

 

On Tuesday, notorious Colombian drug lord Dairo Antonio Usuga David, known as Otoniel, was sentenced to 45 years in prison for his involvement in a criminal gang and as the leader of the multibillion-dollar drug-trafficking and paramilitary organization known as Clan comes out." 

Usuga addressed the court and reiterated that he accepts his "responsibility for the crimes committed" and apologized to the relatives of the victims, their parents and the US and Colombian governments "for the damage caused".

“Don't take the same path I took. Armed conflict must remain in the past. Guns must remain in the past," he said in a message to Colombian youth on Tuesday, CNN reports.

According to US Attorney General Merrick Garland, Dairo Antonio Usuga David ran one of the largest cocaine trafficking organizations in the world, where he directed the export of massive amounts of cocaine to the United States. 

The "Clan del Golfo" is a powerful drug cartel that controls the cocaine routes in Mexico and the United States. Federal prosecutors on Tuesday described the group as "one of the most violent and powerful criminal organizations in Colombia" and one of the world's largest cocaine distributors.

"Usuga David served as a high-ranking leader within the criminal gang from its inception and was its primary leader for approximately 10 years," prosecutors said in the press release.

Usuga was captured in Colombia in October 2021, a feat for then-Colombian President Ivan Duque, who noted that this was "the biggest arrest of a narcotics trafficker by the Colombian police since the time of Pablo Escobar."
