Kosovo's acting Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, met on Saturday evening with senior US State Department official, Brendan Hanrahan, in Pristina, with whom he discussed bilateral relations between Kosovo and the United States and the importance of deepening cooperation.
According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister's Office, the parties also discussed current political developments, regional cooperation, and relations with Serbia at a working dinner.
"The United States of America is a steadfast ally for our country and the Republic of Kosovo will always be their reliable partner," Kurti was quoted as saying, according to the statement.
The meeting took place at the residence of the chargé d'affaires at the US Embassy in Kosovo, Anu Prattipati.
Also part of the meeting were the acting Minister of Economy, Artane Rizvanolli, and the acting Minister for Communities and Returns, Nenad Rashic.
Before visiting Kosovo, Hanrahan has made visits to Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, and is the highest-ranking official to visit the Balkan region since the new American administration.
Kurti is the second senior official from Kosovo to meet with Hanrahan, after days earlier he also held meetings with the President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, in Washington.
Through a post on Facebook, Osmani said that together with the American official they discussed "deepening the strategic partnership between Kosovo and the United States."
In Serbia, Hanrahan met with Serbian President Aleksandar Vu?i?.
Through a post on Facebook, the Serbian president said that productive economic cooperation between Serbia and the United States should be the basis of relations between the two countries.
"I emphasized that Serbia remains committed to preserving peace and stability, and that we see dialogue as the only way to resolve open issues and respect international law," Vu?i? said in a Facebook post, noting that he also discussed the situation in the Balkans with the American diplomat.
At the start of the visit, Hanrahan himself said that he looks forward to strengthening ties between the United States and the countries of the Balkan region./ REL
