Kosovo holds early parliamentary elections today

Early parliamentary elections are being held in Kosovo today, with 1,999,024 citizens eligible to vote. The voting process will take place in 910 centers with a total of 2,557 polling stations, from 07:00 to 19:00.

The elections are being monitored by the Kosovo Police, the Prosecution and international observers, while the first results are expected before 8:00 PM.

The Central Election Commission certified a total of 24 political entities for the early parliamentary elections. Among them are 18 political parties, three pre-election coalitions, two civic initiatives and one independent candidate.

There are 1,146 candidates for deputies, certified by the CEC from all participating political entities, competing for seats in the Kosovo Assembly.

The Kosovo Assembly has 120 seats, while 61 mandates are necessary to secure a parliamentary majority and form a Government.

These are the second parliamentary elections held within a year in Kosovo, following the failure to form a new government in the February elections.

Neither party managed to secure the necessary majority for the new executive. Due to the political deadlock and the impossibility of reaching an agreement, the Assembly was dissolved and early elections were called. The process aims to provide the country with functional institutions and a new Government with a full mandate. /REL
