Exhibition of counterfeit paintings/ Italian police seize 21 works of art in

Italian police have seized 21 artworks purportedly by Salvador Dali, on suspicion of being forgeries, after being informed by the Surrealist Foundation in Spain of suspected anomalies in the works.

The works were part of an exhibition, “Salvador Dalí, tra arte e mito” (“Salvador Dalí, between art and myth”) that was on display in Rome for the first half of the year. Last week, it opened at the Palazzo Tarasconi in Parma.

Italy's Carabinieri art squad said that while the exhibition was open in Rome, it had received a report of suspected anomalies in some of the works from the Fundaciòn Gala.

The artist had created the non-profit foundation in 1983 to promote, foster, disseminate, enhance and protect the world of Dali worldwide, according to the foundation's website. /CNA
