Athens was paralyzed by a general strike as thousands of people protested against new labor laws. Public transport, schools, courts and hospitals faced major disruptions.
Unions in Greece organized a 24-hour nationwide strike on Wednesday to oppose new labor laws.
The reforms aim to bring greater flexibility, allowing shifts of up to 13 hours under a weekly limit of 48. However, unions denounce the plan as a threat to fundamental rights, warning that it will expose workers to unfair practices.
The protest brought Athens to a standstill, with ferries grounded at the port, taxis off the roads and public transport operating on a reduced schedule. Schools, courts and hospitals also faced widespread disruptions.
While the strike continued with thousands of people marching and services severely disrupted, police confirmed that no violence was reported. /CNA
