The constitution of the Kosovo Assembly fails for the eighth time

The constitution of the Kosovo Assembly has failed for the eighth time today. This Tuesday's session was intended as an opportunity to continue the process that began in seven consecutive sessions, which did not lead to any concrete decision.

Vetevendosje MP Glauk Konjufca renominated candidate Albulena Haxhiu for Speaker of the Kosovo Assembly. Out of the 110 MPs present in the hall, 54 MPs voted in favor of Haxhiu for Speaker, 44 voted against, and 3 abstained.

The chair of the session, Avni Dehari, announced that today's session is adjourned, to resume on May 1st.

"Based on this, we are forced to adjourn the session, see you on Thursday, May 1, at 10:00," said the chairman of the session, Avni Dehari.

Opposition parties reiterate their stance that the Vetëvendosje Movement is holding the state of Kosovo hostage by not changing its candidate for Speaker of the Assembly.

The leader of the second largest party, the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), Memli Krasniqi, said that the Vetëvendosje Movement is behaving with the same mentality for the eighth time in a row.

"First, democracy functions with a majority. Second, institutions belong to the people. And, third, the time of one-party rule and monism is over. The sooner the Vetëvendosje Movement understands these three issues, the better for the country. It is excessive to come here every 48 hours," said Krasniqi.

Of the 61 votes required as a minimum, Albulena Haxhiu has so far received no more than 57 votes for Speaker of the Kosovo Assembly, of which 48 are from the Vetëvendosje Movement and 9 from MPs from communities. The first constitutive session was held on April 15. /CNA
