The German ambassador seeks progress in the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue

The German ambassador in Kosovo, Jorn Rohde, requested progress in the dialogue for the normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia, stressing that there is currently not much progress in the process mediated by the European bloc.

He made these statements on October 18, after participating in a discussion in Pristina regarding the Berlin Process.

"Our expectations are that the interested parties who want to move, talk to each other, and have the political will to achieve progress, because at the moment there is not much progress in the dialogue. I know there are choices, but we always have choices somewhere. For the citizens of the region, and especially of Kosovo and Serbia, it is important that there is movement, that we move forward", he said, after being asked to comment on the new round of dialogue.

Next week, on October 24, the new round of dialogue at the level of chief negotiators will be held in Brussels. However, it is not yet known whether there will be a tripartite meeting.

"I am sure that [the European envoy, Miroslav] Lajcak and the new team in the Commission want progress, and in the end the ultimate goal is the membership of Kosovo and Serbia in the EU, both and everyone knows that this can only be achieved if we have normalization and without normalization there is no possible membership" in the EU, said the German ambassador to Kosovo.

In the EU, but also in NATO, more and more are expressing dissatisfaction with the current course of the dialogue, saying that the process is not producing the expected results.

The European emissary for dialogue, Miroslav Lajçak, has a mandate in this post until the end of January 2025. Meanwhile, the EU is waiting to see what approach to dialogue the new high representative for foreign policy, Kaja Kallas, will have. , after she takes office. Her mandate will start when the whole new team of the European Commission is ready, after it is confirmed by the European Parliament.

The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, has stated that he expects new dynamics from the European Commission, as far as the dialogue is concerned./ REL
