Fatal attack on a museum in Ukraine

A Russian military rocket attack on a museum in the eastern Ukrainian city of Kupyansk killed at least two people and wounded 10 others.

The head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, Oleh Synyehubov, told Radio Free Europe that the April 25 attack in downtown Kupjansk involved S-300 missiles - one of which hit the Museum of Local History.

Synyehubov said that the search and rescue operation is ongoing.

"The terrorist country is doing everything to destroy us completely. Our history, our culture, our people. Killing Ukrainians with absolutely barbaric methods", said the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky.

"We must and will respond", he added.

In another development, Ukrainian Deputy Defense Minister Hanna Malyar described the ongoing fighting in the town of Bahmut as a "dynamic process".

“We can lose positions in battle today, and regain them tomorrow. This is the reason why the army will talk about the result after the operation is over," said Malyar.

Her comments come a day after Ukrainian commanders denied claims that mercenaries from the Russian Wagner group almost completely control the city.

In Washington, National Security Council spokesman John Kirby warned that Russian forces could increase attacks once the weather warms.

"We know that in the spring, when the weather improves — and it's already starting to improve — we can expect the Russians to launch new offensives in some areas," Kirby said.

Bahmuti has been the scene of fierce fighting for several months now./REL
