Murder of Judge Kalaja/Çela: Need for a plan of measures for the security

Prosecutor General Olsian Çela held a meeting with prosecutors this Thursday, following the murder of judge Astrit Kalaja.

According to the announcement, the meeting focused on the safety of magistrates inside the courtroom, working conditions and the need for a plan of measures for the security of the justice system.

"The Attorney General called a meeting today with the heads of prosecution offices and prosecutors from all prosecution offices to discuss issues related to the safety of magistrates, starting from the serious incident in which Judge Astrit Kalaja lost his life.

The meeting analyzed the state of security parameters in the institution and the need for their improvement, the working conditions in which prosecutors work and the infrastructure problems related to the security of the work environment. Prosecutors raised concerns about the continuous public attacks against them, which affect the increase in insecurity in the exercise of their duties.

The conclusions of this meeting will be further discussed with prosecutors in meetings to be held in each prosecutor's office to then follow up with a plan of institutional measures in coordination with other justice institutions.

"The Prosecutor General supports and stands in solidarity with the position of the body of judges in today's meeting on all issues related to the security of magistrates, assessing that there is a need for a complete reconfiguration of security standards for the justice system and will contribute in this regard in coordination with all responsible institutions," the Prosecutor's Office announced. /CNA
