Chargé d'affaires of the US Embassy in Tirana, Nancy VanHorn participated this Wednesday in an activity organized by the American Chamber of Commerce.

In her speech, she said that there are still challenges to be addressed regarding the development of a good business climate.

The American official called to avoid problematic investments that endanger national security.

"I promise you that I will work side by side with you to promote a good business climate for Albanian and American companies.

I want to tell you something else, as we look towards creating this good business climate, we must keep in mind some of the risks of potentially problematic investments. This is why the embassy strongly supports investment screening legislation that is in line with EU guidelines.

We believe that it is essential to avoid investments that are not in line with Albanian priorities or worse could pose national security risks down the road.

I hope that you, as a pillar of the business community, will encourage Albania to join the EU countries that have adopted legislation for the review or verification of investments", she said.

VanHorn also requested the adoption of legislation aimed at combating informality./ CNA
