The General Directorate of Archives (DPA) has presented the 5 newest research publications, which deal with historical topics and archival fields.
Returned after a long period of absence in the function of periodical publisher, DPA brings for the third year in a row studies on important periods and figures in the country's history, as well as on archival methodology in the Albanian space. Present at this activity were the General Director of Archives, Ardit Bido, the representative of the State Agency of Archives of Kosovo (ASHAK), Bekim Aliu, academics, members of the Supreme Council of Archives (KLA), as well as archivists and researchers in the fields relevant.
In his opening speech, Bido said that these publications make a contribution to Albanian historiography, noting that in the following year, the DPA will also publish an archival guide, to guide researchers in the online research process.

"In the five editions of this year, there are three collections of documents, a monograph and the magazine 'Arkivat Shqiptare'. Due to the lack of opportunities to cultivate a special science, such as archival science, we have decided to join forces with the State Agency of Archives of Kosovo to develop a periodical Joint Conference of periodical Archival Science, which has been held around the Albanian territories. Next year the focus will be archival guides that will facilitate the work of researchers, as it is now necessary. Until yesterday, researchers were directed to the Study Hall in Tirana, but in the last 4 years, with the opening of Archival Corners in districts, inside and outside the country, the assistance of archival specialists is not possible. Moreover, since a month, we have introduced the Online Study Room and it turns out that despite the increase in requests for the served documents by 227%, the situation is affordable. In this sense, all archival information tools take on special importance", Bido assessed.
In his welcoming speech, Ali praised the continuous cooperation with the DPA in the annual publication of the magazine "Arkivat Shqiptare", which represents a cultural product beyond state borders.
"Our cooperation is mutual. I believe we will always continue like this. As for our joint publication 'Archival Magazine', it is true that we have covered many historical topics there as well. But, with the digitization process, the opportunity has been created for the preparation of other topics related to archival," said Aliu.
Four of the newly published publications come in the form of monographic works or summaries of documents about personalities and historical developments. The researcher Sokol Çunga, author of the publication "Jani Vreto, correspondence with Sotir Kolean", said that the added value of this publication is the correspondence of handwritten letters from the Renaissance activity to the former head of the National Library.

"This is not the first publication on the figure and activity of Jani Vreto. However, in this edition we have a volume of correspondence of letters sent by Jani Vreto to Sotir Kolean. It is handwritten in the Istanbul alphabet and sent mainly from Bucharest and then from Athens. This collection of documents aims to show what happened and the relevant reasons for some important events for Albania", said researcher Çunga.
In her speech, researcher Elsa Saka, co-author of the publication "June 1924 movement in archival documents", together with researcher Fatjon Balliu, emphasized that this work, which coincides with the jubilee anniversary of a polarizing historical event, aims to bring help researchers, through the presentation of facts with neutrality.
"This publication comes within the 100th anniversary of the June Movement. Some have called it 'revolution', some 'coup d'état', as two opposite terms. To this day, there are still dilemmas among scholars over these terms. But, we have remained neutral, bringing facts from the events of June 1924. We have selected to reflect those documents, which are useful to researchers or history enthusiasts, to create a clear idea about the June Movement", said the researcher. Saka.

Meanwhile, researcher Brisejda Lala, co-author of the publication "Documents on the presence of Jews in Albania, 1939-1945", together with researcher Florin Zyberaj, said that the transmission of historical evidence about the shelter of Jews by Albanian families during the Second World War, it serves, among other things, to highlight social values.
"It is a very important topic for the history of our country, because it still makes us proud, pointing out the values ??of our people. Among the extensive fund of DPA documents, I would single out some of the documents produced by the occupiers for anti-Semitic policies, but also of local government bodies, showing conversion to other religions and the provision of other identification documents to escape persecution", said researcher Lala.
"With this publication, the General Directorate of Archives completes the series of studies on the archive, from ancient times to our days. It is based on extensive literature, but focusing on the documents found in the DPA. This period has been treated little and fragmentarily. It begins with the full establishment of the Ottoman administration in our lands in 1506 until the declaration of Independence in 1912. However, these limits have not limited the author to rummage through ancient times, taking into consideration archaeological findings. on the field", explained the Director of Inspections and Trainings in DPA, Dr. Endrit Musaj, on the publication of the monograph of researcher Kujtim Nuro, "Albanian Archives 1506-1912".

For the eighth year, the cooperation between the DPA and the State Agency of Archives of Kosovo (ASHAK) is crowned with the publication of the next issue of the magazine "Albanian Archives". This publication, which is the only one in the field of archives throughout the Albanian lands, summarizes the periodic works of researchers and archivists from Albania, Kosovo, North Macedonia and Montenegro, presented at the National Archival Conferences. This magazine enables any archivist or interested person to delve into the discipline of archival science, as a separate science from history or from other related sciences. has an early origin in the continuous publications of peer institutions throughout the last 60 years./ CNA
