Rainfall in the country/ IGJEUM: Risk of increased flows in medium and large

The Institute of Geosciences shared a forecast for rainy weather conditions this Tuesday, which has affected most of the country.

According to the data, the continuation of rainfall is also expected to have an impact on the increase in the flows of medium and large rivers.

More specifically, an increase in flows is expected in the Drin-Buna rivers, Lake Skadar, the Mat river, Shkumbin, Ishëm, Erzen, Seman and Vjosa.

Precipitation:

This afternoon (Tuesday, the 17th), moderate rainfall is expected in the regions of Elbasan, Fier, Berat, Korça, Vlora and Gjirokastër, accompanied by thunderstorms, while light rainfall is expected in other regions.

In the North, East and South East of the country, at altitudes above 900 m above sea level, precipitation is expected to be in the form of snow, more concentrated in the North of the country.

Today's storms and high rainfall intensity can create various problems, such as falling rocks and debris and water flooding in localized urban areas, depending on the sewage system in the regions of Shkodër, Lezhë, Durrës, Elbasan, Vlorë and Gjirokastër.

According to hydrological calculations, as a result of the high-intensity rainfall that fell over the past two days, which is expected to return on Thursday and Friday (February 19-20, 2026), there will be an increase in flows in the large and medium-sized rivers Drin-Buna, Lake Skadar, Mat River, Shkumbin, Ishëm, Erzen, Seman and Vjosa.

Temperatures:

Tomorrow (Wednesday, the 18th) minimum and maximum air temperatures are expected to reach:

on the coast: 8 / 12 °C

in lowlands: 3 / 10 °C

in mountainous areas: -3 / 3 °C

Wind:

This afternoon and tomorrow the wind is expected to blow light to moderate, for short moments to strong, mainly on the coast.
