The perpetrators of Ardit Spahiu's murder are sentenced/ 25 years in prison

The Serious Crimes Court in Brussels has sentenced Franc Çopjan to 25 years in prison for the murder of Ardit Spahiu. The federal prosecutor had requested life imprisonment for Çopjan, who is accused of ordering Spahiu's murder and being the head of a criminal organization.

According to Belgian media, the court considered the lack of a previous criminal record in Belgium as a mitigating circumstance for Çopja's sentence. The 33-year-old has been in custody in Belgium since December 29, 2023, following his extradition from the United Arab Emirates.

Mikael Qosja, the second mastermind of the assassination, was sentenced to life imprisonment. The Brussels Court of Serious Crimes found no mitigating circumstances in his case. Flobenc Meçja, the perpetrator of the crime, was also sentenced to life imprisonment.

Meanwhile, Elton Roci was sentenced to 20 years in prison, Elvis Murataj to 8 years, and Eljo Bitri to 5 years in prison. Bitri has been cooperating with justice since November 2023 and has become a collaborator of justice. The sentence against Bitri was decided based on his "repentance" for the murder, his "desire to turn a new page" and the confessions he made to judicial authorities during the investigation "despite the considerable risks" he faced.

We recall that Spahiu was executed in a mafia ambush on November 28, 2021 in Molenbeek, Belgium. He was shot as he left a bar, where he was in the company of his friend, Florian Narazani. The victim had been accused years ago of organizing the murder of Gëzim Alikaj, an event that took place in the city of Elbasan, near the Zaranikës Bridge. /CNA
