"Persons were linked to criminal activities"/ DASH revokes more than

The U.S. State Department has revoked more than 100,000 foreign visas, an all-time record, following President Donald Trump's first-day executive order on vetting foreign nationals.

According to the State Department, most of the revocations were for business travelers and tourists who had overstayed their visas. About 8,000 students and 2,500 skilled workers also lost their legal status. According to the State Department, most of the students and workers who lost their visas were linked to criminal activities.

Among specialized workers, 50% of revocations were based on arrests for drunk driving, 30% on charges of assault, physical violence or confinement, and 20% of visas were revoked on charges of theft, child abuse, abuse, substance distribution, as well as fraud and embezzlement.

According to a State Department spokesman, nearly 500 students lost their visas for drug possession and distribution, and hundreds of foreign workers lost their visas because they were believed to be child abusers. The State Department's principal deputy spokesman, Tommy Piggott, added that the administration will continue its aggressive law enforcement stance through its new ongoing vetting center.

"The Trump administration will continue to put America first and protect our nation from foreign nationals who pose a risk to public safety or national security ," he said. The U.S. State Department has also implemented stricter standards for obtaining U.S. visas. /CNA
