Exclusion of journalists from the conference/ Association of Professional

The Association of Professional Journalists of Albania has expressed its concern over Prime Minister Edi Rama's behavior towards journalists during today's press conference. According to the Association, the use of intimidating and labeling language, as well as the action of ejecting two journalists, Ambrozia Meta from Syri TV and Isa Myzyraj from Report TV, from the room constitutes a clear act of using the force of power against the media.

The association emphasizes that journalists' access to public information is not a privilege, but a fundamental right that guarantees transparency and the functioning of parliamentary democracy.

In the statement, the association asks Prime Minister Rama to show restraint and respect the role of the media as the fourth estate and as a voice of public interest.

"Every politician, especially a prime minister, has the obligation to be responsible and accountable to the media. The relationship between the powers and the media is not a matter of personal preference, but a necessary coexistence regulated in the Constitution," the Association's statement said.

The Association of Professional Journalists of Albania once again expresses concern about Prime Minister Edi Rama's bullying behavior towards journalists as they ask him questions, a situation that was repeated during today's press conference.

The intimidating and labeling language used by the Prime Minister escalated today, with an act of force, the expulsion from the press conference of two journalists, Ambrozia Meta of Syri TV, who was informed that she would be permanently excluded from his conferences, as well as journalist Isa Myzyraj of Report TV, who was ejected from the room. The example of the force of power that the Prime Minister showed towards journalists, by limiting their access to public information, was proof of how Mr. Rama conceives the relationship with the media. Access of journalists to public information is not a privilege, but a fundamental right, which guarantees the transparency and functioning of parliamentary democracy.

The Association of Professional Journalists of Albania condemns this behavior of the Prime Minister towards journalists and calls on him to show restraint and respect the role of the media, as the fourth estate and as a voice of public interest. Every politician, especially a Prime Minister, has the obligation to be responsible and accountable to the media.

"In a democratic society, the relationship between powers, including that between the executive and the media, is not a matter of personal preference, but a necessary coexistence, regulated in the constitution, where each exercises their role and responsibility, respecting the duty of the other," the reaction states./ CNA
