Lobbying report for Erion Veliaj/ Lies with 220 thousand dollars

2026-03-13 14:58:00, Aktualitet CNA

Another report was published by Erion Veliaj's lobbying studio, which was paid $220,000 to publish reports full of falsehoods and with the aim of protecting and releasing from prison the mayor of Tirana, who is facing 13 serious criminal charges.

This is the next report by lobbyists, who have previously, before court decisions, published reports, because after all, this is their duty, to receive hundreds of thousands of dollars for reports that contain lies and seek to serve a detainee who is being held in a cell because he was tampering with evidence and intimidating witnesses.

What is the truth, what does the report say, and what are the facts that refute these paid lobbying efforts by the company, but also the media propaganda paid for by the brother of the mayor of Tirana, Arbër Veliaj?

According to the report, one of the most flagrant violations is the blocking of Veliaj's access to the investigative file (evidence file), which contains about 60,000 pages. For months, SPAK and the Preliminary Session Court have prevented the defense from getting acquainted with the evidence, forcing the mayor to face the process without the basic tools for an effective defense.

This is completely untrue, as Veliaj's lawyers have received the materials with a written record, with a signature. Veliaj asked for them printed and billed the Albanians for this cost, when he paid 220 thousand dollars for lobbying and for a ridiculous price his defense studios could print them.

The fact is that the lawyers have emphasized in court hearings that they are familiar with the acts. SPAK has never said that Veliaj should remain in prison because of foreign lawyers, this is another big lie. In court, the prosecutors have emphasized that through lobbying, false things have been said and an intimidating climate has been created among the witnesses. These can easily be found and shown to any lawyer in the process.

Although the Court of Appeal recently ordered the submission of the materials and adjourned the hearing until 24 March 2026, the report questions whether Mr Veliaj can review this massive volume of documents in just two weeks. It also notes that the strict restrictions in Durrës prison have made confidential and effective communication between him and his state-appointed counsel impossible.

The 7-month volume of documents was given to lawyers, who were selected by Veliaj and then dismissed on various technicalities. The lawyer was mainly appointed as stipulated by law.

The report alleges that SPAK is using pretrial detention as a form of reprisal against the exercise of democratic rights. During the court hearings, prosecutors have opposed Mr. Veliaj’s release, arguing that the petitioning and defense activities through legal advisors in the US aim to “delegitimize” the judiciary.

Erion Veliaj is in detention by decisions of all levels of courts, not because SPAK wants him to. The truth is that Veliaj was caught tampering with evidence, attacking prosecutors and judges, and intimidating justice.

The case has sparked widespread international concern.

The report quotes: Conclusion Kasowitz LLP calls the Erion Veliaj case a bellwether for Albania’s commitment to the rule of law and its aspirations for European Union membership. The report warns that SPAK’s methods risk undoing years of investment by the US and other partners in strengthening independent justice institutions.

There is no evidence of international concern about Erion Veliaj, only commissioned and paid writings, including lobbying in the US where the same studio lied in a report regarding allegations that prosecutor Ols Dado requested a building permit for an addition, which was refused. This false accusation has never been proven, even going along with claims that the prosecutor is an activist of Sali Berisha's DP.

This entire report, again with shallow and untrue positions, comes immediately after the moves of the head of the Supreme Court, Sokol Sadushi, to change the decision of the Joint College of 2011 and before the decision of the Constitutional Court. In the coming days, there are expected to be many reports and articles or positions against SPAK and pro-Veliaj, which come from payments and lobbying aimed at influencing the courts.

The lobbying firm Kasowitz LLP would do well to obtain and read the court records because with data that is unknown where it gets it is often exposed and is damaging its reputation with reports containing distortions, untruths and fraud that have been discovered not only in wiretaps./CNA
