The Census of Population and Dwellings begins/ Fines up to 100,000 for those who

On Monday, September 18, the Population and Housing Census began, a process that will be led by INSTAT. Over 7,500 surveyors, supervisors and controllers trained by the Institute of Statistics have been engaged in counting the entire population and housing and the data will be collected in 6 weeks. It is expected that the results of this census will be made public on June 30, 2024. 

A few days ago, Prime Minister Edi Rama during his speech at the conference for the launch of the Population and Housing Census said that for this new initiative the Albanian government will also receive funds from the European Union. 

This is the 12th census in the history of Albania, which comes 100 years after the first census, conducted in 1923. Through this process, we will have an accurate number of the population and housing. For this process, over 7,000 people have been hired by INSTAT and the total cost is expected to reach 16.9 million euros.

Process:

If a citizen refuses to be part of the population census, or lies about the data, penalties are foreseen, ranging from 50 to 100 thousand ALL. All family members will be counted, and if they are over 18 years old, they will answer the questions on the form drawn up by INSTAT. 

Interviewers will ask about personal information, education, health status, employment and other elements of life. Also, the Census includes questions about ethnicity, religious belief and language. The questionnaires have eight modules and 100 questions.

The surveyor undertakes to put the data on the tablet and send it to INSTAT electronically.
