Panagyric celebration on the feast of Saint Cosmas of Aetolia, with the participation of His Beatitude, John.

The holy monastery of Hierodesmor Kozma appeared radiant, filled with divine grace, today, August 24, 2025, on the day the Orthodox Church celebrates his memory. A special holiday with a unique grandeur. Many local believers fervently sought the intercession of the saint.

The sacred services were led by the Archbishop of Tirana, Durrës and All Albania, His Grace Joani, and together with him were the Metropolitans of Berat, His Grace Asti, of Amantia, His Grace Nathanaili, as well as the Bishop of Kruja, His Grace Anastasi, and priests from the country's Metropolitans.

Saint Cosmas of Aetolia, the blessed hieromartyr and equal to the apostles, lived and worked during the 18th century. He is one of the saints of the Church who are called young martyrs and appeared during the years of the Ottoman Empire.

Figures like Saint Cosmas of Aetolia, through their example, teaching, and sacrifice, kept alive the Orthodox faith of the enslaved Christians of the East.

Saint Cosmas went to Constantinople, received permission and blessing from the Ecumenical Patriarch of that time, and in 1760, at the age of 46, began his missionary work.

Saint Cosmas made 4 major journeys to various regions of the Balkans, including Albania.

Love of God and love of neighbor were the two main points that his sermon dealt with.

His missionary activity lasted 20 years. Saint Cosmas was highly respected by both Christians and Muslims.

They hung him from a tree and he was martyred on August 24, 1779, in the village of Mujalli in Fier. His body was thrown into the river and Christians took it and buried it with hope in the village of Kolkondas.

The Ecumenical Patriarchate on April 20, 1961, ranked Saint Cosmas of Aetolia with the New Martyrs, calling him equal to the Apostles./ CNA
