"An act of grief for many"/ UGSH reacts to the death of Artur Zheji

The Albanian Journalists' Union has reacted to the passing of publicist and analyst, Artur Zheji.

Through a statement, UGSH appreciates the figure of Zheji and expresses its sadness over the passing of the analyst and journalist.

In the reaction made by the Union of Journalists, it is stated that the passing of Artur Zheji is a significant interruption in media coverage and political analysis.

Renowned journalist and analyst Artur Zheji passes away

Cardiac arrest has ended the life of renowned journalist and analyst Artur Zheji. 

In six days he would have celebrated his 64th birthday.

The shocking news for his family, colleagues, friends and fans comes from the coastal city of Saranda, where he was on summer vacation.

Artur Zheji was considered among the journalists, publicists and analysts with commendable erudition. He had a long career in Albanian and international media and journalism.

Zheji was born on August 29, 1961 in Tirana, into a family closely connected to Albanian art and culture. He was the son of renowned linguist and translator Petro Zheji and renowned actress Besa Imami.

The cultural and intellectual relationship with the family hearth, throughout his life, gave him the opportunity to emerge as a lecturer and public communicator with a special intellectual and cultural dimension.

For several decades he served in the Albanian multimedia spectrum. For several years he reported and did analysis on well-known Italian radio stations.

Afterwards, on several Albanian television stations, he excelled as a moderator and analyst of political and geopolitical debates, reaching a peak in the late 1990s on the national television station Arberia, especially during reports from the wars in the Balkans and especially during the War in Kosovo.

Zheji was the director of the Albanian Public Radio and Television and then in several print media, mainly the newspaper "Mapo", standing out for his analytical writings and critical style.

Since 2017, his name and image have been strongly associated with the show "360 Degrees", which expanded its broadcasts to Ora News and then to ABC News, while he managed the new online media 360degree until his death. al…

Journalist Zheji will remain in the public's memory for his oratorical style, the expressive wealth he carried, for the verbal strength of his polemics, and especially for his integrity and high sensitivity in the defense and proud expression of his ethnic Albanian identity.

The words and positions of analyst Artur Zheji constituted a point of reference for many foreign colleagues who follow and deal with Albanian issues in the region.

Artur Zheji's language and writing skills constitute a benchmark of standard, quality, and intellectualism in our media, to this day.

The sudden end of his life creates a noticeable interruption in the media discourse and appearance, in the range of political analysis and Albanian sociopolitical debate, as well as in the field of polemics or discussion of historical and identity issues with colleagues, regional and foreign media in general.

The sudden departure from life of Artur Zheji is an act of grief for many who knew him, who followed him, or who knew where he came from and what he represented.
