35 years since the massacre on the border with Greece where four young people

August 23, 1990 marks one of the massacres that occurred on the border with Greece in Rehovo.

35 years ago, on August 23, 1990, in the early hours of the morning, several young men from Korça, together with other friends from Erseka, headed for the border with Greece at the infamous Rehova border post. The postman opened fire on them, killing Petrit Bashkim Ajdini from Korça, 26 years old; Artur Xhevahir Kërcelli from Korça, 25 years old; Niko Stefan Joti from Erseka, 24 years old; and Safet Irfan Rrapo from Erseka, 31 years old.

Avni Sami Rumi, 27 years old from Kolonja, was arrested and sentenced to 4 years in prison. Only Pandush Thanas Nica, 29 years old from Korça, managed to escape.

The body of Safet Rrapo was later found after he had also sustained injuries from the fall from the cliff. The bodies were returned to their families. The funeral ceremony of Petrit and Artur in Korça turned into a powerful anti-communist demonstration. At that time, 12 people were arrested and several court proceedings were held./ CNA
