What happens when a relative of an employee of the Albanian Supreme Audit

The Head of the Supreme State Audit Office, Arben Shehu, was present at the hearing at the Committee on Civic Initiatives regarding the 2026 draft budget.

Asked about cases when a relative of an ALSHI employee must be interviewed, Shehu said that the law is quite clear for these cases.

The head of the SAI said that the employee must declare the conflict of interest with the audit subject and in case of failure to declare there are penalties.

Further, Shehu suggested that the SAI and parliamentary committees have continuous communication, to provide solutions to each problem on a case-by-case basis.

"It is quite normal for SAI employees to have family members who are audited. The employee is obliged to declare the conflict of interest and based on this declaration, the employee is held accountable."
