The head of SPAK, Altin Dumani dismissed the accusations that the US exerted influence and interfered in SPAK's investigations.

Dumani said this evening in a televised appearance that the US is more interested in building sound institutions, but has not intervened in the investigations.

"I have also heard that Altin Dumani supports this. I have many years of experience with US agencies, with OPDAT, ICITAP, DEA and FBI since 2003. I was selected as a member of the first organized crime task force that was created.

I have found that the US is more interested in building sound democratic institutions than in particular individuals. In this many years of my experience, there has not been a single case for representatives of the United States of America to interfere with our investigations, direct or guide our investigations", he said.

The head of SPAK stated that there is a very good cooperation with the USA and international agencies.

"SPAK has a very good cooperation with the United States of America, with OPDAT, ICITAP, DEA and FBI missions. They have contributed to the growth of the institution in making the institution functional. The United States of America, through these missionaries that I mentioned, have been present since the moment SPAK was designed into law. Furthermore, they were present in the selection of the prosecutors of the Special Prosecution, in the selection of the investigators of the National Bureau of Investigation, in the selection of the leaders of the Special Prosecution.

We and the investigators of the National Bureau of Investigation have supported us with training. They have supported us with technical means, with infrastructure, in order to create the conditions for the exercise of our functions. We have the presence of the FBI in our offices, we have been promised that the DEA will also open in Tirana. We have joint investigations with the US, with the FBI and with the DEA. Joint investigations where the interests of our two countries are violated. I want to thank the USA, representatives of OPDAT, ICITAP, DEA and FBI for the opportunity they have given us to have contact with various law enforcement agencies in Europe, but especially in Latin America", underlined Dumani. / CNA
