The Competition Authority starts monitoring the prices of basket products

The Competition Authority has announced the launch of a monitoring of the retail market of basket products, regarding the price level of daily consumer products.

It is reported that the monitoring will include the main supermarkets operating in the country and aims to create a complete picture of the developments in this market, by analyzing data on sales, consumption structure and price performance during the period January 1, 2025–June 2026.

The Competition Authority starts monitoring the prices of basket products

As part of this monitoring process, the Authority has requested entities to submit detailed information on total sales for 2025 and the period January-June 2026, as well as the list of 30 products that account for the largest share of their sales, which will be subject to a full comparative analysis of market behavior.

According to the Competition Authority's announcement, the purpose of the monitoring is to assess the functioning of competition in this segment of particular importance for the household economy, to identify market trends and to identify any element that may require the Authority's intervention in accordance with the legislation on the protection of competition. /CNA
