Amazon has a new job for its Astro robot: A roving security guard in stores to detect theft and other threats.
The company on Wednesday announced Astro for Business, a version of its robot it's pitching as a crime prevention tool for retailers, manufacturers and a variety of other industries, in spaces up to 5,000 square feet.
Astro for Business is only launching in the US to begin with, and comes with a hefty price tag of $2,349.99.
Amazon unveiled Astron, its first robot, in September 2021. The three-wheeled device can roll around the house to respond to Alexa voice commands and has a 42-inch periscope camera that lets it see over the counter or other obstacle./ CNA
