A rare spaceship-shaped transport vehicle is going up for sale

Rare experimental Domino vehicle from the 1980s will soon be on the auction block.

The Tritan A2, which looks like it would be more at home in a Star Wars movie than delivering pan pizza, was commissioned by Domino's founder Tom Monaghan.

Monaghan ordered 10 of the vehicles in 1985 in an effort to create the "economical delivery vehicle" of the future, according to Mecum Auctions, which will auction the car in Las Vegas on November 10.

The Tritan A2 features a 440cc rotary engine as well as a red, white and blue Domino themed color scheme on its predominantly fiberglass body.

The vehicle, which has been restored, boasts an "aero body with an alleged drag coefficient of 0.15," according to the listing. The average car, by comparison, usually has a drag coefficient between 0.3 and 0.4.

In an interview with CNN Business, the car's current owner, Chuck Sinnott, said that despite being a "crowd pleaser," the A2 has poor visibility and is susceptible to potholes because it sits so low to the ground.

The winning bidder will also receive a customized motor trailer to transport the A2 around town.

The last time one of the vehicles in this fleet went up for auction, the winning bidder took it home for $44,800./ CNA
