Nepal is the next country that banned the use of the "Tik Tok" application. The government of Nepal has argued this decision saying that it affects social harmony, brings harm to the society and gives wrong messages to the youth.

"The decision to ban was taken today and the relevant authorities are currently dealing with the technical issues," Communications and Information Technology Minister Rekha Sharma said on Monday.

The Tik Tok platform, which has about one billion monthly users, has faced restrictions in many countries for violating personal data rules and for the potential influence of some content on young people.

Nepali institutions have filed several lawsuits for incitement to religious hatred, violence and sexual abuse. In some cases, the videos published on "Tik Tok" have led to mass fights and various crimes.

A case that has brought violence in India and other countries has been that of the clash between Muslims and other faiths due to publications on this application.

A few hours after the decision was made public, videos on the ban on "Tik Tok" received thousands of views, The Guardian reports.

Gagan Thapa, head of the Nepali Congress party, which is part of the ruling coalition, said the government's aim is to stifle freedom of expression.

The decision comes days after Nepal introduced a directive requiring social media platforms operating in the country to set up offices.

TikTok is the sixth most used social platform in the world, according to marketing agency We Are Social. Many countries have sought to strengthen controls on social media because of its potential influence on children./ CNA
