The latest report compiled by the European Transport Safety Council (ETSC) highlights not at all optimistic data regarding road accidents in EU countries.
According to figures, during 2025, around 19,500 people lost their lives, while more than 100,000 others were seriously injured.
The report notes that the number of victims fell by only 2% compared to the previous year, while since 2019, when the target to halve road deaths was set, the decrease has been only 15%.
This data comes as the EU aimed to reduce fatal accidents by around 31% by 2030.
Of the EU countries, Norway and Sweden remain the two countries with the lowest road death rates, recording only 19 fatalities per 1 million inhabitants, compared to the EU average of 43 fatalities per 1 million inhabitants. /CNA
