Italy's rebuilding, Mancini heading to the bench. Several candidates for technical director

The Italian Football Federation is working to rebuild the national team after failing to qualify for the third consecutive World Cup.

The new president, Giovanni Malago, has stated that the priority remains the appointment of the technical director, while he has not ruled out surprises in the coming days.

Meanwhile, the possibility of Roberto Mancini returning to the Italy bench is gaining ground. Mancini led the national team from 2018 to 2023 and won the 2020 European Championship, held in 2021. During his tenure, Italy also recorded a record 37-match unbeaten run, with 30 wins and 7 draws.

Among the candidates for the position of technical director are Demetrio Albertini, Alessandro Costacurta, Giuseppe Bergomi and Gianfranco Zola.

Italy will start Euro 2028 qualifiers in Group 7, where they are placed alongside Germany, Belgium and Slovakia. Final decisions are expected to be made in the coming days.
