Panic in Argentina, Messi injured before the World Cup

Lionel Messi has caused concern in Argentina just weeks before the start of the World Cup.

The Argentine forward suffered a left foot injury during Inter Miami's 6-4 win over Philadelphia Union in MLS. The 38-year-old was substituted in the 73rd minute after feeling discomfort in the back of his left foot.

However, post-match footage showed Messi walking normally towards the dressing room, allaying fears of a serious injury.

This was his last match with Inter Miami before the Argentina squad for the World Cup. The Argentine national team will start the tournament on June 16 against Algeria in Group J.

Messi has previously suffered physical problems ahead of the 2022 World Cup, but then he played every minute and led Argentina to the title.

The focus now remains on his physical condition as he aims to participate in his sixth World Cup.
