Hull City have officially returned to the Premier League after a dramatic final at Wembley, where they beat Middlesbrough 1-0 in the Championship play-offs. A hard-fought match, decided only in the final seconds of extra time, gave Sergej Jakirovicc's team a return to the top flight of English football after a 9-year absence.

The decisive moment came after a Hull City move in the opposition's area. Goalkeeper Sol Brynn failed to control a cross into the area and the ball ended up in McBurnie's net from close range for the only goal of the match.

This final was played in an unusual atmosphere, partly because of the controversy that preceded the match. Southampton, the team that had originally won the semi-final against Middlesbrough, were excluded from the play-offs after the decision of the Federation. The club was found guilty of spying on opponents' training sessions and was expelled from the competition just a few days before the final.
