Jona Leka completed her studies in Medicine 11 years ago, specializing in Cardiology in the neighboring country, Italy. For several years now, she has been serving in the southern region as a cardiologist. She remains faithful to the Hippocratic oath, visiting patients herself, dividing her work throughout these years between Gjirokastra, Tepelena, Përmet and Fier.

Every day, near the premises of the Regional Hospital, there are dozens of patients who trust the doctor with their health. Doctor Jona has left the capital and is in the southern region serving the community, as the needs for specialists at the Regional Hospital "Omer Nishani" are high.

"When I think about it, it's been 11 years since I finished my medical studies. I've been a cardiologist for 4 years. My desire has always been to be a doctor. I managed to achieve it with a lot of work and effort, but it definitely went in the direction I wanted. In medicine, I explored different fields, before choosing cardiology and finding myself in this specialty. Completing my studies was accompanied by work experiences in many cities. I managed to have very good knowledge of epidemiology. I'm in Gjirokastra, but I'm blessed, as I've gained a lot while working in several hospitals. I worked for 1 year in a row for a very important donation", says Leka.

Doctor Leka, during her years of service to citizens, has had several moments that she singles out as challenges, which today, for her, are completely achieved. Such has been the Covid-19 period.

"The pandemic is the most complicated and difficult period, with many challenges, a lot of work and results that we would all like to be, many times higher, and I believe that during that period we have succeeded," said the doctor.

Jona is met every day by patients, whom they say he heals with just words. And while talking to him, he never considers leaving Albania as an option. /CNA
