Mental health, WHO sounds the alarm: 17% of the population in Europe has

Europe is on alert. The WHO, in its latest report, says that people suffering from mental health problems are increasing. Currently, 17% of the population in Europe, including Albania, suffers from these problems.

Mental health problems are numerous, ranging from mood disorders, anxiety, or depression.

Global health experts have noted that feelings of loneliness are particularly prevalent among the elderly and teenage girls. In numbers, 1 in 4 people over the age of 60 report feeling lonely, and the same goes for teenage girls.

Even more worrying is the fact that 1 in 3 people suffering from a mental health disorder and 1 in 4 people with psychosis are not treated, while the lack of mental health professionals is also highlighted.

It has been seen that mental health problems are the leading cause of suicide, with around 400 people aged 15–29 making the fatal decision every day.

Given this panorama, experts call for mental health to become a priority for governments and health structures, and for cooperation between all actors to reduce the numbers.
