This is the "magic" drink for winter colds

For those tough times when we feel like we're lacking energy, there's an easy and economical way to get an extra boost that's actually completely natural and healthy. And we are not talking about coffee, but a ginger drink. Combined with lemon and honey, it can become a drink that will warm us and invigorate us on cold winter evenings.

Of course, there are ready-made ginger drinks (hot teas or soft drinks like ginger ale), but if we like to enjoy it more regularly, then it is better to prepare it ourselves for economic and practical reasons. The recipe is simple and proven. It is enough to have ginger root at home. We recommend using the root rather than the ready-made ginger powder found in spice shops, as this is where you will find most of its nutrients. While its taste is even more intense. This drink goes well with cinnamon and you can add some cayenne pepper if you like an extra hot, anti-inflammatory element. To prepare this special drink you can follow the steps we described in our previous post.

If you want to enjoy it every day, then you can prepare it and store it in an ice tray in the refrigerator, so that you can use it whenever you want, hot or cold. Either way, a homemade ginger ale will stay fresh in the fridge for about a week, and in the fridge definitely for much longer.

Useful components of drinks in our body

From the first moment you try a ginger drink, you will feel its ability to "wake up" and activate us immediately, but is it good for us? Of course, since it has as main ingredients this precious root and our favorite citrus fruits. Lemons on the one hand are a good source of vitamin C and potassium and are also rich in citric acid, which seems (according to medical sources) to help keep kidney stones at bay. They are also full of antioxidants, which are always necessary for the good health of our body. Ginger, on the other hand, is also very antioxidant and favors the good functioning of our body in many ways, such as with its anti-inflammatory properties. At the same time, it helps us in cases of vomiting in the morning and also has some useful properties. That's why we recommend making it your morning or evening routine.

In principle, it is better to choose large pieces of ginger root (so that it is easier to peel) and thin-skinned lemons, which means that they contain more juice). Also use silicone ice packs so the ice cubes are easier to remove and ideally with lids so they don't absorb odors from the freezer.

First, we peel the ginger well, so that there is no skin left, either with a peeler, or simply by using a large spoon or a sharp knife for the areas that are more difficult to peel. Also, we can cut the root into smaller pieces for easier peeling.

The next step is to squeeze the lemons, preferably using an electric or manual squeezer, to get as much juice as possible. The next step is to put the grated ginger and lemon juice in the blender for about 3 minutes. Once the ginger is completely dissolved, slightly foamy and light, pour the liquid into ice packs and refrigerate for at least 6 hours, until frozen.

When we want to make a drink, we take out an ice cube from the ice pack, put it in a cup and add hot water until the ice cube melts. You can add a little honey if you like./ CNA
