The Minister of Relations with the Parliament, Elisa Spiropali, has demanded justice for the case of the 41-year-old woman with the initials BL, who poisoned herself with phototoxin, after they had opened a defamatory profile on the social network "TikTok".

Through a status on social networks, Spiropali says that the perpetrators who instigated the act of self-poisoning should be punished to the maximum extent.

She states that denunciations of cyber crimes and online threats should be treated with the utmost seriousness by law enforcement bodies and the justice system.

Also, the minister calls for immediate intervention in the legislation on online media, cyber crimes and the criminal code.

"A 41-year-old woman, mother of four, reportedly killed herself due to denigration and bullying on social networks.

This terribly serious case demands justice!

The maximum punishment of the author or authors for causing/inciting the act of suicide is the least that should happen!

It is the moment to become aware that the language of denigration and violence in social networks disproportionately affects women and girls, it is fed by the culture of patriarchal violence that isolates women in the corner of collective "shame" causing severe individual, family and social trauma .

Legislation for online media, cybercrimes, criminal code, etc., need immediate intervention so that the culture of defamation and denigration is fought without any reservation from the law and does not return to social normality.
