High temperatures/ DP proposes shortening working hours, closing nurseries and

Democratic MPs, Albana Vokshi and Dhurata Çupi, in a statement to the media from headquarters, proposed a package of measures to deal with hot days. 

The MPs said that the working hours in the public and private sector should be shortened, while the chronically ill and pregnant women should work from home with reduced hours. 

Vokshi proposed the complete closure of public and private nurseries and kindergartens and that one of the parents take care of the children in return for salary compensation.

In these very, very hot, unusual, difficult and unaffordable days for every Albanian family, given the very high temperatures (around 38-40 degrees),

Given the lack of water and electricity throughout Albania,

Bearing in mind that the governments of the region, such as the case of the government of Kosovo, which a few days ago took some measures to cope with the hot days,

Together with my colleague Dhurata Çupi, we are here on behalf of the DP to express our deep concern for the non-reaction of the Albanian Government, which is one of the only ones that has not reacted to come to the aid of Albanian families, while the theft and abuse continues of money with phantom incinerators, with golden tunnels, with unnecessary health concessions.

The six DP proposals for the package of measures to deal with hot days (proposal for VKM):

 1. General shortening of working hours (public and private sector), maximum until 13.00. This excludes sectors such as health, police, army, firefighters and any emergency structure.  

2. Chronically ill and pregnant women to work from home with shortened hours;

3. For the sectors that work in an open environment, such as construction, for example, reduced hours or even the complete suspension of work during the hot days of this week (the case of Kosovo) should be considered.

 4. Complete closure of public and private nurseries and kindergartens. One of the parents takes care of the children in return for wage compensation (keeps the children at home).

 5. For pensioners who live alone or for persons with disabilities: the Albanian post office will take measures to send the pension or the payment of disabilities to the home (without additional financial costs).

 6. The urgent establishment of inter-institutional groups at the municipality level, of immediate response to persons with disabilities, pensioners and other categories in need for any need they may have to buy medicine, food shopping, assistance in the apartment by setting up a toll-free contact number, etc.).

Chupi Gift:

The financial costs of shortening the working hours in the private sector, or of the parent who will take care of the children at home, or other costs should be borne by the Prime Minister's reserve fund;

Energy savings are predicted to be millions of euros (just imagine state offices).

The health sector will also have financial and time savings (imagine if they don't go out or work in this terrible heat... how many people won't need to go to health centers and hospitals for medical treatment... then add the medicine bill that you want must buy).

We remember here the precedent is... the year 2007 (but that was as a result of the energy crisis, and measures were taken to save energy during the summer), it was shortened for a few weeks in the summer (July August), the official working hours (became 08.00-13.00 ).

DP requests the urgent taking of the above measures, in order to protect the health of the citizens and on the other hand to economize the use of electricity. /CNA
