Six months after being sentenced to 'house arrest', the leader of the Democratic Party Sali Berisha has turned to the Strasbourg Court to seek justice, for the decision which he calls a political punishment.

Through a lawsuit, the opposition leader's lawyers ask the European Court of Human Rights to intervene to remove the 'house arrest' measure, which, according to them, is a decision not based on the law.

In the filed lawsuit, Berisha listed to the Strasbourg court all the legal efforts he made in Albania, with constant requests for the undoing of the austerity measures, including the request to allow him to go to the parliament.

But the courts, according to Berisha's defense, violated these rights, not only by not listening to him, but also by disclosing the decisions slowly.

As a fact to support this claim, Berisha also mentions in the lawsuit the Supreme Court, which issued a March decision two months late. /CNA
