The Prisons Commission met this Saturday afternoon after the request of the former elected mayor of the Municipality of Himara, Fredi Beleri, to take leave on Monday, to be sworn in as a Greek MEP in Strasbourg. The commission is expected to decide whether to approve the permit or not Mr. Beleri to participate in the first session of the EP. Although the Greek media report that Beleri has already secured the permit and is getting ready for the trip, this news has been denied by the Directorate of Prisons.
We remind you that Fredi Beleri is one of the MEPs of the New Democracy party, led by Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis in the European Parliament, part of the EPP grouping, and managed to be elected MEP in the June 9 elections. /CNA
