EC Report on Albania/Kos: SPAK is today the most trusted institution in the

Following the publication of the EC's Rule of Law Report for Albania, European Union Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos stressed that the country must show concrete progress in key areas.

In her comments on this report, Kos praised the steps taken by SPAK as positive, considering it the most trusted institution in the country.

Regarding membership, Kos said that the EU operates based on the merits approach.

"The good results of the Special Structure against Organized Crime and Corruption, SPAK, are positive steps that are also highlighted in the Parliament's report. It is vital that Albania continues to show concrete progress in key areas. In this context, the independence of the special structure against corruption and organized crime, SPAK, must be fully preserved. SPAK is today the most trusted institution in the country. This must be protected and strengthened. This report comes at a crucial moment, as the membership negotiations between Albania and the EU are moving at an unprecedented pace, as we heard, with several important achievements accomplished in recent months and others expected. This shows that Albania is seriously engaged in the enlargement process, while the EU is acting respecting the merit-based approach. We are working closely with the Danish Presidency to keep up the pace. We believe that the remaining two groups will also open as soon as possible", said Marta Kos. /CNA
