Rama to oil suppliers: The crisis in the Middle East cannot be projected onto

Prime Minister Edi Rama, in a conversation with oil suppliers, called on them to maintain balance in the market and not reflect the entire burden of the crisis in the Middle East on citizens.

During a communication with market operators, Rama emphasized that the government is in the process of consulting on a new law on the state fuel reserve, which is intended to be physically expanded to 100 days of supply.

He also announced that work is underway to finalize an initiative to introduce a wholesale distributor with state participation to the market. According to him, this mechanism will guarantee the supply of sufficient quantities and facilitate relations with third parties, reducing dependence on intermediaries.

The Prime Minister underlined that, at the moment, intervention through the transparency board has not been deemed necessary, given that the dialogue with the operators has been working. However, he warned that the goal remains consumer protection.

"We have a consultation on the law on the state reserve that should be physically extended in 100 days. We are working to finalize an initiative that we have undertaken to introduce a state factor into the market as a wholesale distributor. It will guarantee the necessary quantities by having state support and on the other hand it will facilitate relations with third parties that go through brokers.

This is the summary. I would ask you to maintain this balance that you have maintained so far. We have not seen it reasonable, starting from communications, to take the step and move on board because if the dialogue works as we intended, we will tighten it but let's agree that the crisis in the Middle East cannot be projected entirely on the shoulders of consumers. This means low profit margins for you, but better low margins than the board on your back," said Rama./ CNA
