The head of the Socialist Party parliamentary group, Niko Peleshi, said today that the main challenge of the Socialist Party after winning 83 seats in the Assembly from the May 11 elections is to avoid the arrogance of numbers.

In an interview with A2CNN, Peleshi said that in the new parliamentary session he hopes that a consensus will be created by the opposition, too, for necessary legal changes.

According to Pelesh, the main goal remains the agenda for the European dream.

"The large numbers, 83 close to the qualified majority, give you a sense of security, but the main challenge is how to avoid the arrogance of numbers. It is a risk that is always with us, when you know that you have the numbers to approve laws that do not make it necessary to reach out to the opposition. I would like to wish that we should aim to have consensus from the opposition on changes to the electoral codes or other codes. We will aim to have as much consensus as possible from the opposition, this is important, but it is not more important than maintaining the pace of membership, which means that if there is no political will, if there is no cooperation and if we have the numbers, in popular terms, we will move forward because we cannot compromise the European integration process because of the opposition's agenda. First, we bow before the European dream. It is a challenge because this job also requires experience, but the good news is that everyone is professional. "They have won absolutely on merit, you can't get popular support if you don't deserve it. All the rest is politics, accusations, smoke.
