Former President Bamir Topi spoke today about his acquaintance with Democratic Party leader Sali Berisha.

Invited to a television interview, Topi revealed that Berisha was friends with his brother, a doctor, Flamur Topi.

Topi said that Berisha seemed to him to be an extremely motivated, serious and ambitious person for the mission he had.

"In 1990 I was at the Veterinary Research Institute, head of department, after a period of doctoral studies and physically I was at the Institute, but I had a mind of what was happening. The meetings and offers have been strong since 1992. In 1996 Berisha told me to run for the DP. Following the conversations we had had before, now, he said, the time has come, because I believe you have also closed your academic career. In 1995, I had just received the title of professor. Berisha was friends with my brother, Flamur, from the Medical Technical School and since our house was in the center of Tirana, according to Flamur's accounts, they would come to our house.

Berisha seemed to me to be an extremely motivated, serious and ambitious person for the mission he had.

When I took over the Institute of Veterinary Medicine, the situation was scandalous because everything was broken and I brought the spirit of organization that I had seen in Italy. In the years 1992-1996, the institute had become a leader, but I could not continue further because I was hindered by the conjunctures in the ministry that covered the institute. Then I was appointed Minister of Agriculture and Food.

When foreign delegations came to Albania, they were concerned about what was happening in the country in 1996 with pyramid schemes that were getting out of control, and the conversations they had were between colleagues and Prime Minister Meksi.
